Driver Requirements
Before you apply, please confirm you meet these requirements.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Valid driver's license with at least 3 years of U.S. driving history (foreign driving experience doesn't count)
- A reliable vehicle: owned, borrowed, or rented, 2012 or newer, that passes inspection
- Willing to complete the required screenings and onboarding (background check, fingerprints, drug test)
- No Illinois School Bus Permit (SBP) yet? You can still apply. You'll complete the permit process with us, including the DMV written and driving tests.

Pay & Schedule
- $40+ per trip. Pay is per trip, not per hour. Longer trips pay more based on mileage.
- Usually 2–4 trips a day, depending on your routes (minimum 1, maximum 5).
- Mornings, afternoons, or both. Routes run mainly Monday to Friday during the school year.
- Training covered. We register you and pay for the 8-hour training (attendance time is unpaid). Onboarding expenses are reimbursed two weeks after you're approved and start driving trips, so keep your receipts.

Do you provide student transportation in Illinois?
Yes. SkylineHub supports student transportation programs across Illinois with trained drivers and consistent route coordination.
Can schools request custom route support?
Yes. We work with schools and families to coordinate transportation options that fit daily operations and student schedules.
How much do drivers get paid?
Pay is per trip, not per hour. Each trip pays at least $40, and longer trips pay more based on mileage. Usually 2–4 trips a day depending on your routes, with a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 5 trips a day.
What vehicle do I need?
Your vehicle can be owned, borrowed, or rented. It just needs to be 2012 or newer and pass inspection. Sedans, minivans, and SUVs all qualify.
Do I need a School Bus Permit already?
No. If you don't have an Illinois School Bus Permit yet, you can still apply and complete the permit process with us. Already have your SBP? Our team will review what else you need.
Is the training paid?
The 8-hour training is required. We register you and cover the training itself, but your attendance time is unpaid. Onboarding expenses are reimbursed two weeks after you're approved and start driving trips.
